The day promised to be the first stinker of the season and by 10am the quicksilver had reached for the mid twenties. A couple of days earlier the liner in my leather jacket had met its summer destination: the wardrobe hanger... and I finally had spent a week making an effort to fit back into my Draggins.
My activity for the day was planned well ahead and the first thing on my list was to go for a ride up to Bald Hill to meet up with some IR people. It was a glorious view from up there looking out over the ocean and the Illawarra coastline.
Then it was time to get to the business part of the day. My first plasma donation!
I was done in 29 minutes...600ml of liquid gold, as the nurse called it...that's certainly good timing!(not that anyone in our group would get competitive about that!)
A milkshake and some good conversation with DaZippa later and we parted ways.
I was feeling fine.
Until I stopped for petrol at the Northgate Servo...
Loco was there and we chatted for a moment, then I started feeling faint and had to leave him behind to rush inside. When I started to pay for my petrol, things were going very slowly. It seemed as if they were moving at a snail's pace. I got impatient and had to sit down real quick. Everything around me turned white and I felt very weak. Thank goodness Loco sat down with me after he had moved my bike off the bowser. He is a wardsman in a hospital. I held on!
Just...! I think the prospect of getting recussitated by anyone present at that petrol station at that very moment made me hold on.
Loco seemed to think that it was heat stroke and a cool drink made me feel much better.
I got on my bike and off I went.
Would it have happened in an airconditioned car? Maybe not....so sometimes it might be a better choice...
Ps: GIVE BLOOD!

Sometimes it's better to take a car...
